5 out of 5 stars ONE FANTASTIC COMPUTER FOR LOW PRICE   July 16, 2010
Don
I'm NOT a computer geek, just know enough to research and price for a good value. Looked for about 2 weeks before finding HPE150F through Amazon. For what I paid, it can't be beat! Was looking for 4-core, 2.5-2.8GHz CPU; 6-8GB DDR2 RAM; 750GB HDD; 1GB video card; Win 7 home prem OS; and the usual niceties. This HPE far exceeded expectations, and for low $500 range! It's not a gamer, but for my use is very, very top end of what I ever dreamed. One year warranty from HP and I paid for a second year extension with discount coupon. Weekly(?) checkup, HP found HDD problem during 2nd week. HP replaced HDD, no cost. Rating the various HPE components, the large HDD is the weak link, rated 5.9 out of 10. For me, this machine is fast. With the Intel i7, all checks, updates, cleanups are in background while I do my work. The only thing missing for me right now is eSATA connection. USB2.0 is ok, but external HD would work much faster through SATA. Connected a 32" TV/monitor (with PIP) using HDMI cable from video card to TV/monitor. All reviewers said this connection would be a problem; use VGA instead. The HDMI works great for me, and have a HD digital picture. This is my 4th computer: 2 laptops, 2 desktops. With this machine I am using backup because that 1TB HDD is alot of mass to spin. HP even recommends to not shutdown, but just let machine powerdown and sleep over night. Currently I have "high speed" (broadband) internet. This computer deserves and can easily handle the real highspeed- fiber optic cable, which is not available to me. I only found this computer and my price at Amazon. Thanks Amazon!

5 out of 5 stars After About 6 Months No problems   July 15, 2010

After About 6 Months no problems
I have built my computers for the past 12 years or so, something I probably won't do again as it no longer seems cost effective or worth the time - at least for me.
I rate this computer highly for these simple reasons:
I have had zero problems with it. It worked out of the box with no confusion and did not come with preinstalled garbage or CDs that take hours to figure out if they have any value. It is fast and responsive, programs and processes that meant waiting time are now instantaneous or much speedier. (My previous Windows Vista PC which had plenty of power in principle was a slug, less usable then the less powerful Windows XP PC that preceded it.) The entry into 64bit had fewer problems than I anticipated.

I splurged when I bought it and might have been just as happy saving a few dollars on a lesser model. But the bottom line is so far I am very happy with the package.

5 out of 5 stars Great, Powerful Computer   July 9, 2010

HP really impressed me this time. This computer is the best one that I have ever used. This computer does not freeze at all. I always run the disk cleanup. The keyboard and mouse that came with it are excellent as well. All of my programs worked with Windows 7, which by the way is a pleasure to use. It is much better than XP. The only thing that did not work was my printer, which I didn't like anyway, but my new one worked with it just fine. This computer is fast. iTunes works better with it. It does not take forever to open. I use this computer for gaming, which it is rated for. The graphic card is excellent for my driving games. They work much better than on my other computer. I set them at their very highest settings, and the game still ran smoothly. To get the maximum performance, I went to the NVIDIA control panel, which can be found by right-clicking on the desktop. I changed the power management mode to "prefer maximum performance". I went to the "Power Options" section of the control panel, and clicked on "High Performance". My computer even works better with those settings. The computer is powerful. It has a lot of features, such as the remote for the media center, the DVD burner, which is common now, and the TV tuner. The burner works on CDs as well, and it is also faster than the one on my old computer. Programs took a lot less time to install. The amount of RAM included is great for multitasking.

BOTTOM LINE: If you want a powerful computer, buy this one, and if you want to enjoy your games. I have not had any problems with it.

5 out of 5 stars Great for as long as it works (WITH ADDendum)   June 14, 2010
HP User
Bought it in February. Was great until it stopped working - keyboard will not work regardless of usb drive. No keyboard will work. HP was very helpful on the phone but in the end could not figure it out. Have a feeling its just poorly manufactured. Have purchased HP for years but this one was a big mistake - though like I said - it worked fine and did what it claimed it could do up until it stopped completely.

ADDENDUM: Okay after puzzling through it and reviewing all the details that I could gather my sense is that the continuous updates I get automatically from Windows, HP and Norton (and probably other sources) somehow caused the device driver to "mis" function. I eventually solved the problems though I cannot say precisely how. The system is back to working now and as I said before, when its working I've only good things to say about it. I'd suggest perhaps not permitting automatic updates without approval from the user. Then investigate exactly what the update is doing. Its obvious that something updated and changed directories and 'configuration" (whatever you people call it today) without being required to update (for how how would they know) the other auto updating sources. One lesson: despite the very good intentions of HP consumer help - they too quickly want to go back to factory settings as the "next step". I mean they have their tehnical interlocutionary system set up, but its not aware of specifically what or whom else is updating the computer. Just a hunch. Anyway its working again and I'm happy.

4 out of 5 stars Sufficient power?   June 9, 2010

The computer itself beautifully does all we expected it to. We enjoy it, as such.
HOWEVER, AMAZON I HAVE A BONE TO PICK WITH YOU! Your specs are not detailed enough to guide a thoughtful purchase. Amazon's specs mention nothing about the standard 300 watt power supply.
To enhance the graphics for Second Life, we also purchased the $400 graphics card SL recommends. However, that card draws more than 300 watts. When it was installed by a local computer tech, the new card drew so much power that the ethernet port was "starved" and found power from another source (possibly the modem)and fried itself, we have been told!
Result: 1. Less than 2 weeks after it arrived, we spent another $175 to have a 600 watt power supply installed. 2. The ethernet port is still not functioning. To make it function again would require replacing the motherboard! 3.We must use an ethernet-to-USB adapter to make the ethernet connection.
